PartLens

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 July 2026

PartLens collects no personal data and has no internet access. It is an offline STEP/CAD viewer and measuring tool. The 3D files you open, the measurements you take, and any notes you add stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded, tracked, or shared with us or anyone else.

1. We do not collect any data

PartLens has no user accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no cookies. We do not collect your name, email, location, device identifiers, usage statistics, or any other personal information. We have no servers that receive your data because the app cannot send data anywhere.

2. The app has no internet permission

PartLens does not request the INTERNET permission from Android. This is a hard, operating-system-enforced guarantee: the app is technically incapable of transmitting anything off your device — no files, no measurements, no diagnostics, no telemetry. All parsing, tessellation, rendering, and measurement run entirely on-device.

3. Your files stay on your device

When you open a CAD file (for example STEP/STP, STEP, STL, IGES/IGS, DXF, or .partlens), PartLens reads it locally to display and measure it. Files are never copied to a server or shared with the developer. Any snapshots, annotations, or .partlens files you save are written only to the location you choose on your device.

4. Permissions we request, and why

PermissionWhyOptional?
VIBRATE A short haptic tap when the measuring reticle snaps to an edge, vertex, or hole centre. Granted automatically; harmless. No data involved.
RECORD_AUDIO (microphone) Only if you choose to attach a spoken voice note to a face of a part. The recording is saved on your device with the part and is never transmitted anywhere (the app has no internet access). Yes. Requested at the moment you record, and only then. If you decline, every other feature works normally.
File access Handled through Android's standard file picker / "Open with" flow. PartLens only sees the specific file you choose to open — it does not browse or index your storage. You control it every time via the system picker.

5. Sharing is always started by you

If you tap "Share" — for example to send a dimensioned snapshot to WhatsApp or email — Android's system share sheet hands the file to the app you pick. PartLens itself sends nothing; you choose the destination, and the receiving app performs the transfer. If you never tap Share, nothing ever leaves PartLens.

6. Children's privacy

PartLens is a professional engineering tool intended for a general and professional audience. Because it collects no data whatsoever, it poses no data-privacy risk to users of any age.

7. Changes to this policy

If the app's data practices ever change, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Because the app collects nothing today, any future change would be an addition we would disclose here and, where required, request your consent for in-app.
