Free OBJ viewer for Android and Windows
PartLens opens Wavefront .obj files for free on Android and Windows, offline. Each object or group becomes a part you can hide or isolate, and colours from the .mtl file are kept. PLY scans and point clouds open the same way.
OBJ is one of the oldest and most widely shared 3D model formats: a plain-text list of points and faces, often with a companion .mtl file that gives each part its colour. Scanners, renderers and design tools all write it, so it is often the file you get when someone just wants to show you a shape.
What PartLens does with an OBJ file
- Objects and groups become parts in the parts list, so you can hide, isolate and inspect them one at a time.
- Colours are kept — from the .mtl file when it sits beside the .obj, and from per-vertex colours.
- Any polygon is handled, not just triangles, and the file's own smooth normals are used when it has them.
- PLY files (ASCII or binary) open too, with their colours; a scan with no faces shows as a point cloud you can snap to.
- Sections and approximate measurement (≈) work as they do on STL.
Open an OBJ file
- Get PartLens free from Google Play or as a Windows download.
- On Android: Tap the file in WhatsApp, Gmail, Drive or your file manager and choose PartLens under Open with, or open PartLens and tap Open.
- On Windows: Install the free Windows app, then double-click the file, drag it onto the window, or use Open CAD….
Nothing is uploaded: the file is read on your device, with no account.
Honest limits
OBJ and PLY are meshes, so measurements on them are approximate (≈). Textured materials show their colour, not their image texture; for textured models, glTF or GLB keeps the texture. On a phone, colours from the .mtl are used when the .mtl can be found beside the model.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open an OBJ file on Android?
Install PartLens from Google Play, then tap the .obj file and choose PartLens, or open PartLens and tap Open. It works offline.
Does PartLens show OBJ colours?
Yes. Diffuse colours from the .mtl file beside the .obj are applied, as are per-vertex colours written in the OBJ itself.
Can PartLens open PLY scans and point clouds?
Yes. ASCII and binary PLY files open with their colours, and a point cloud without faces is drawn as points you can measure between.
Is it free?
Yes. PartLens is free on Android and Windows, with no ads, account or upload.
